Ferndown & District U3A
Welcome to our Website
Ferndown University of the Third Age was founded in 1998 and is part of a nationwide movement that promotes lifelong learning. Currently there are over 500 members, from Ferndown and the surrounding areas. It is a voluntary organisation for retired and semi-retired people to meet together and learn new skills.
It is not a University in the traditional way, as there are neither entry qualifications nor examinations.
You may ask ‘What is the ‘Third Age?’ It’s when you’ve finished working or bringing up a family and have more time to follow your interests. Members have very varied experiences and acquire diverse skills during their lives and some are able to share these by offering educational, creative and leisure activities.
The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. New Members are always welcome!

‘What is the U3A?
How can the Organisation offer so much activity at such a low cost?’
These are questions Brian Williams, our Chairman, has been asked many times.
